About the Author

Benny Malone is a highly trained and experienced counselor with a master of social work from the University of Houston. She also has more than 100 hundred hours of post-graduate work in professional counseling, special education, and educational leadership.

Benny’s experience includes serving the State of Texas Health and Human Services Department, evaluating licensed residential care facilities and writing training materials for state-wide employees.

As the director of guidance, counseling, and special programs for the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District in Houston, she supervised more than two hundred professional staff members and wrote district-wide handbooks, training materials, and public information documents.

Previously published in The American School Counselor, Benny also contributed to Implementing Comprehensive School Guidance Programs in 2002. And she served as project manager for a major revision of the State of Texas school counselor handbook for the education agency.

Benny lives in Houston and is an active volunteer in her community, church, professional counseling organizations, and the National Alliance on Mental Health.
